In recent times, a number of violent global and Australian events have infiltrated the lives of Australians through saturated media coverage, challenging the essence and order of humanity as we know it. Attacks on the liberty of other; the innocent loss of lives and the rich and developed world’s tardy response to the Ebola crisis can leave us sometimes despairing and grieving to the point where it starts to interfere with our everyday thoughts and moods. This 3 hour workshop is an opportunity to share the impact that such events have had on you personally now or in the past and to gain insight into the nature of vicarious stress and trauma. Strategies to help alleviate distress experienced will be offered.

Workshop W154: Psychosocial Skills Training
/* */ ?>This is a 1 day workshop designed for front-line staff whose role involves interacting with members of the public who may have cause to be anxious, worried or stressed; or experience a situation or event as traumatic. Participants will review the core principles of psychological first aid and how these can be adapted and applied to working with the general public or a particular client base to defuse stress and negative emotions, enhance client relationships and augment positive health outcomes.

Workshop W153: Stress Mitigation and Resilience Training
/* */ ?>This is a 1 day workshop designed for those wishing to reduce the harmful and insidious impact of stress on mind, body, spirit and relationships. By the end of the workshop, participants will have a firm understanding of common sources of stress and the impact of stress on behaviour and health. They will have learnt techniques for preventing, defusing and recovering from stress; enhancing levels of resilience longer term; ways of monitoring their own stress levels and committing to a range of behaviours and routines that will support ongoing reduction in stress.

Workshop S152: Enhancing Interpersonal Relationships
/* */ ?>This is a 10 hour introductory workshop presented in 4 x 2.5 hour sessions on a Saturday morning (10am to 12pm).
Participants will review and practice a range of basic skills that commonly enhance interpersonal relationships such as: mindful attention, emotional awareness, emotional regulation, self-awareness, acceptance of difference, open and active listening and constructive approaches to conflict management. Exercises and role plays will be used to enhance insight and skill development.
Workshop S151: Reflective, Still and Mindful
/* */ ?>This is an 8 hour introductory workshop presented in 4 x 2 hour sessions on a Saturday afternoon (3pm to 5pm) designed to support participants to increase their range of consciousness and choices in ‘how to be’.
Participants will be introduced to the basics of mindful attention, breathing for appreciation, meditation and focusing techniques. Sessions will be very practical and participants will be gently encouraged to hone their capacity to be centred, reflective, still and mindful.
